Grand Union—Styleguides, Responsive Website Design and Development

I took a role of design and front-end lead on a project for Aardvark London’s new client—a chain of London gastro pubs, called Grand Union—trying to refresh their online presence, and yet keeping enough references to their quirky interior design, so both experiences are not disjointed.

We started with preparing a new styleguide document, and followed with progressively enhanced email designs and a responsive website. The latter was running on top of a eCRM and  not dedicated CMS platform, which made the whole thing rather challenging and limiting— certain performance optimisations were not possible, while some others had to be introduced on their own.

It was the first project I decided to heavily rely on, while continuing with more advanced use of SVG, modular JS and own responsive Sass framework.

Please note: at the moment, majority of marketing assets, including banners, promos and posters is being produced by the client themselves, and due to a lack of proper content management, the website is no more highly performing.
